Garcia Street Books welcomes John Lawrence, sharing his new book, Sherlock Holmes and The Case of the Revolutionary’s Daughter, and Derrick Belanger, sharing his new book, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes for Christmas. They will be in conversation, and offering special “Garcia Street Books” editions of their books.
About the Authors
John A. Lawrence is the author of congressional histories and Sherlock Holmes mystery pastiches based on historical events. His books include "The Class of '74: Congress After Watergate and the Roots of Partisanship" (2018) and “Arc of Power: Inside Nancy Pelosi's Speakership 2005-2010” (2022) as well as "The Undiscovered Archives of Sherlock Holmes" (2022) and numerous short stories in the MX New Sherlock Holmes series. His
full-length novel, "The Affair at Mayerling Lodge: An Undiscovered Case of Sherlock Holmes" was published in 2023. "Further Undiscovered Archives of Sherlock Holmes" is his second collection of Holmes stories, published in autumn, 2023.
He served for 38 years as a senior staff person in the United States House of Representatives and currently is a Visiting Professor at the University of California's Washington Center. He has a Ph.D. in history from the University of California at Berkeley and an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College.
Derrick Belanger is an award-winning author, publisher, and educator most noted for his books and lectures on Sherlock Holmes and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Derrick is co-owner of the publishing company Belanger Books, which published the first eBook editions of the original Solar Pons books by August Derleth. Derrick's work has been published in The Baker Street Journal, The Sherlock Holmes Journal, The Strand Magazine, and in The Mysterious Bookshop Presents the Best Mystery Stories of the Year (2023). Derrick is a board member of Dr. Watson’s Neglected Patients, the Denver-based Scion Society. In January 2020, Mr. Belanger was awarded the Susan Z. Diamond Award in recognition of outstanding efforts to introduce young people to Sherlock Holmes, and in 2024, he won the Arthur Conan Doyle Society Doylean award in fiction for his short story, "The Joyce-Armstrong Confession". Derrick currently resides in Broomfield, Colorado.
